Pakistan’s consumer-price inflation eased to 10.3% year over year in September, down from 11.1% in August, according to data reported by Business Recorder from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. Prices still climbed 1.3% during the month, so the slower annual rate does not mean that the cost of living fell.

The mix matters for households and employers. Electricity and motor fuel costs rose month over month, while onions and wheat also became more expensive. Some food prices, including tomatoes and chicken, moved lower, showing how uneven the pressure can feel from one shopping basket to another.

For businesses, persistent input costs can complicate pricing, wage decisions and demand forecasts. The next question is whether monthly increases moderate as the annual comparison improves.
