Coinbase and Deribit bring more derivatives products under one roof

Coinbase says its international exchange and Deribit are combining, bringing perpetuals, dated futures, spot and options into a broader platform.

Coinbase says its international derivatives platform is coming together with Deribit, consolidating access to perpetual futures, dated futures, spot markets and options. The company’s customer note also describes expanded options access for eligible U.S. customers.

The combination is part of a wider contest to become a single destination for digital-asset trading. A broader product shelf may be convenient, but derivatives bring leverage, liquidation and counterparty risks that differ sharply from holding spot assets. Availability also depends on the customer’s location and eligibility.

A platform strategy

Combining spot and derivatives products can make it easier for professional traders to manage several strategies in one account. The business case depends on execution quality, liquidity, risk controls and regulatory permissions, not simply on how many instruments appear in a menu.

Risk still comes first

Perpetuals, futures and options can produce losses quickly, particularly when leverage is involved. The announcement is a platform update, not a trading recommendation. Customers should read the exchange’s terms, understand liquidation mechanics and confirm which services are available in their jurisdiction.
